About Us

What We Do

Innovations In Learning, PC, is a multi-faceted agency. We provide intensive ABA services to children with Autism and related disorders, Behavior Management and Music Therapy to individuals in the Waiver program, Day Services for adults with disabilities as well as outpatient services for children and adults including individual, family and group therapy. In all areas of our work we take pride in using empirically based interventions. We develop objective and measurable goals that allow close monitoring of treatment efficacy. Our intensive ABA program and Adult Day Services are located at our main center on Georgia Street in Merrillville. Intensive ABA for our younger kids is located at our Hobart location on Randolph St.

Our History

We are proud of our history and the foundation upon which Innovations is built. From the beginning the main goal of Innovations has been to provide high quality services and to help improve the quality of life of the individuals we serve.  Before even starting Innovations, Dr. Harrison had over 5 years of experience working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. Innovations was approved as a Medicaid Waiver provider for Behavior Management Services in 2005 and the company primarily provided BMAN services and some outpatient behavior therapy under Medicaid and private insurance. At that time Dr. Harrison partnered with Sarah Schaefer, LMHC, BCBA and together they grew the company from just 3 employees to close to 20 employees in 2007. In 2007 Ms. Schaefer relocated to Portland, Oregon. Innovations missed her daily contribution to the company but by this time the company had many skilled Behavior Analysts and a strong commitment to the vision of Innovations.

In June of 2009 Innovations opened the first ABA Clinic with a capacity of only 5 children. The company also started to plan how they could expand services to adults as a Day Service provider under the Medicaid Waiver. In January of 2010 Innovations purchased the old Davenport University building and moved all its programming from the office in Hobart to the larger facility in Merrillville. The goal of the expansion was to offer a day service program but also to expand the ABA Clinic for children diagnosed with Autism. Since 2010 our Adult program has grown to approximately 85 adults and our ABA Clinic has grown to a capacity of 24 children. Music Therapy was also included as a service under the Medicaid Waiver in 2010. In 2011 Innovations received a grant from The Geminus Corporation to provide funding to provide free therapy, trainings and educational opportunities for parents/caregivers of children with intellectual disabilities. Innovations currently serves over 600 clients and employs more than 90 individuals. Innovations offers a variety of programming and continues to stay committed to its original vision.
